Meet Our Clients: Pierre Reed, Founder of PMTR Industries

Dr. Pierre Reed loves cyber. Really, really, loves cyber. “If I won the lottery, I’d do it for free” says the founder of PMTR Industries, a cybersecurity service business based in Frederick. “It’s constantly changing and requires adaptive skills to remain at the top of the field.” Dr. Reed was introduced to cyber when he began his career with the U.S. Army Signal Corps. After four years in the military, he moved to US Sprint as a network engineer and from there developed his expertise in governance, policy development, medical device security, secure wireless networking, and proposal writing for a variety of government agencies and contractors, private industry clients, and military sites requiring highly cleared personnel.

After 32 years working for others, Pierre has stepped out on his own with PMTR.  In addition to secure services for various industries for his burgeoning company, Dr. Reed has a software platform in development. And although Pierre holds MSc. MBA, and Ph.D. degrees, as well as several cybersecurity certifications, he feels that his greatest professional benefit came from entering the field at the bottom and working his way up the cybersecurity/network engineering ladder. Dr. Reed is well versed on all aspects of the cybersecurity industry and is excited about evolving with new technologies as the industry continues to expand. His knowledge incorporates everything from the way routers, switches, and servers work, to key cybersecurity governance issues for large and complex organizations.

Dr. Reed came to FITCI, he says, because he “heard a lot of fantastic things about it.”  A virtual client, he notes that while he knows a lot about cybersecurity, he doesn’t know as much about running a business. Pierre has fully embraced the role of tech entrepreneur, though—matching his love of cybersecurity with his passion for creating his own business.  Dr. Reed is an all-around sports fan, researcher, and avid golfer.
