Jan Gardner Jan Gardner has been serving the citizens of Frederick County as County Commissioner for the past five years. Jan has consistently supported public education, intelligent growth management, fiscal responsibility, and agricultural preservation.Jan graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1978 with a BBA in Finance and Economics. She continued her education and received an MBA from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Commissioner Gardner is knowledgeable and experienced in local government and has work experience in the private sector. Jan worked for the Quaker Oats Company, a Fortune 500 company, in operations management, distribution, and new product development. Commissioner Gardner has been actively involved in the Frederick County community, serving as Secretary of the Frederick County Civic Federation, Legislative Chair of the PTA Council of Frederick County, Chair of the Spring Ridge Advisory Committee, and has volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader. Commissioner Gardner has been an avid supporter of Volunteer Frederick! Commissioner Gardner has enthusiastically worked to build schools and address school overcrowding issues. Commissioner Gardner serves on a statewide Public School Facilities Task Force working to define adequate school facilities and make recommendations for the implementation of full day kindergarten. She is Vice President of the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Education Sub-Committee. Commissioner Gardner has worked on transportation solutions and has served as the liaison for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Transportation Planning Board and the Frederick Area Committee on Transportation. Commissioner Gardner is a member of the Interagency Internal Audit Authority and has been an active member of the Frederick County Planning Commission. She also serves on the Local Emergency Planning Committee. Commissioner Gardner represents Frederick County at MACo and is the President of the County Elected Women. She is a member of the Character Counts! Council, Committee for Frederick County, the Companion Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, the Eastalco Citizens Advisory Board, the Frederick Arts Council, the Frederick Community Action Agency, and the Historical Society for Frederick County. Additionally, she serves on the National Museum of Civil War Medicine Board, the Washington Council of Governments (COG) Metropolitan Washington Air Quality Committee, the Workforce Development Board, and the Public Library Board. Commissioner Gardner's second term as County Commissioner expires on November 30, 2006. |
