Akonni Biosystems Inc, a Maryland based life science company founded in April 2003, develops, manufactures and sells genetic-based diagnostic and disease surveillance solutions for both infectious and human health diseases. Akonni's solutions are based on patent-protected gel-drop microarrays and microfluidic Lab-on-a-card technology. This technology uses precision robotics to place an array of micro-gel-drops within a microfluidic Lab-on-a-card. Each gel-drop behaves as an individual test tube which yields unprecedented multiplexing capability in a single step with minimal reagent use and liquid handling. Akonni's integrated microfluidic card approach is far easier to use, cheaper, faster, and more accurate than currently available microarray technologies. Biaera Technologies, LLC is an innovative aerosol research company, offering automated laboratory systems and services. Biaera's cornerstone product, the Aerosol Management Platform (AeroMP) is a single hardware and software platform that controls and monitors all aspects of inhalation exposure including; Aerosol generation, Characterization, Sampling, Airflow, System balancing, Environmental parameters (including temperature, humidity, and pressure, Animal respiration and Dose calculation). Biaera graduated in early 2010. BioElectronics, is the maker of inexpensive Drug Free, Anti-inflammatory Medical Devices and Patches. Actipatch is an FDA cleared, drug-free patch designed to reduce pain and swelling and accelerate healing.ActiPatch™ is based on the same proven and highly effective pulsed electromagnetic therapy used for decades by physicians, therapists and athletic trainers worldwide. The inventors of Actipatch have used state-of-the-art micro electronic circuitry to shrink the technology into an inexpensive, small, lightweight wearable patch that effectively reduces swelling (edema) and significantly speeds the healing process with no known side effects. BioElectronics graduated from the FITCI incubator program in fall of 2007.
The company incorporated as a Delaware corporation in 1999 and began operations under the name ALTech Biomedical, Inc. The company has since changed its name to ChromoTrax (tracks chromosomes through color) which more accurately reflects the functions of its core technologies. Chromotrax’s proprietary platform technology is an automated, ultra sensitive and cost effective process for quickly and reliably detecting specific diseases and toxic exposure in humans, enabling detection far earlier than conventional techniques. The company has completed the technical development of an advanced DNA probe, the ReSeD® probe and is well along on completing the development of an accurate, low-cost, high-volume diagnostic procedure, Hybridization in Suspension. Hybridization in Suspension is a rapid, accurate and cost-effective technique for detecting signature chromosome aberrations. It reduces human labor required, and is up to 1,000 times more sensitive than conventional FISH. Chromotrax graduated from FITCI in fall 2008. Cybrdi, Inc. is the pioneer and primary provider of human tissue array products. Cybrdi has established a comprehensive and integrated system to collect various normal and diseased human tissues, and continuing throughout the manufacturing process of hundreds of tissue microarrays. By offering various high-quality tissue arrays in a format of single, paired, combined and multiple panels, Cybrdi enables scientists to identify, verify and validate molecules of diagnostic and therapeutic importance. Together with DNA (gene) array technique, tissue microarray technology is a powerful tool for the rapid analysis of molecular targets, discovery and assessment of new therapeutics, and determining prognosis of a disease. Cybrdi graduated from the incubator program in fall 2008.
